Ghanaian film shorts showcased at London Pan-African Film Festival Monthly Screenings
In a recent event at the West Norwood Picturehouse, two Ghanaian filmmakers presented their short films as part of The London Pan-African Film Festival’s (PAFF) Monthly Screenings. Kobina de Graft-Johnson, a Ghanaian cinematographer and producer based in the US, showcased ‘Barely Made’, while ‘Moon Over Aburi’, produced, co-directed, and starring British-Ghanaian Anniwaa Buachie, was the second feature.
Directed by Eric Dickens Jr and Shantelle Duah, ‘Barely Made’ follows Adwoa, a first-generation Ghanaian navigating life after losing her corporate job in New York City. On the other hand, ‘Moon Over Aburi’, co-directed by Sheila Nortley and based on a story by Emmy award-winning Dr. Kwame Dawes, explores themes of love, murder, and corruption in Ghanaian society.
Both films received positive reception from the audience, with Anniwaa Buachie emphasizing the importance of high-quality diaspora content. Kobina de Graft-Johnson noted the enthusiastic response from attendees, showcasing the growing interest in African cinema.
