Set to release on December 15, “The Color Purple (Music From and Inspired By)” boasts a star-studded soundtrack for the highly anticipated film adaptation.
The album showcases performances from the musical by a talented ensemble, including Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Halle Bailey, H.E.R., Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, and Fantasia Barrino.
Notably, the soundtrack also features original songs inspired by the film, contributed by Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Megan Thee Stallion, Coco Jones, Keyshia Cole, Jorja Smith, Black Thought, Mary Mary, and more.
Listeners can anticipate a special collaboration between Usher and H.E.R., as well as a remix by Missy Elliott. The end credit song, crafted by The-Dream and sung by Fantasia, adds an extra layer of star power to the musical compilation.
The first single, “Lifeline,” written, co-produced, and performed by Alicia Keys, is already available. Alicia Keys collaborated with production partners Tricky Stewart (known for work with Beyoncé and Rihanna), Marshmello (associated with Selena Gomez and Juice Wrld), and TMS (notable for collaborations with Dua Lipa and Lewis Capaldi).
The soundtrack is brought to life by executive music producers Grammy-winning film composer Nick Baxter, Tony-nominated composer and lyricist Stephen Bray, and multimedia artist Blitz Bazawule, who also co-directed Beyoncé’s Black is King.
While the full tracklist is yet to be unveiled, the album promises a captivating musical journey. Kris Bowers’ score for the movie is set to release on December 25. Both albums are distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, WaterTower Music, and gamma.
