In the world of film, Acheampong Magazine collaborates with Africa’s best Creatives in empowering black filmmakers and engaging film lovers in both digital and print. Acheampong Magazine in 2018 began to award and celebrate outstanding filmmakers with African Content through its “AREEL”; an annual outdoor cinema awards.
The AREEL, “BigScreen Shorts” is an independent outdoor cinema for people to come and enjoy films, network and discover new talent whilst a percentage of the tickets made from the events will contribute to support and collaborate with young creative talents to kick start their careers in filmmaking. The very first film we produced with funding through The AREEL “BigScreen Shorts” is ‘Victim – short film’.
Our maiden edition of The AREEL was held in September 2019. The open call received over 57 entries and this validated the set goal. It is by this that we intend to sub categorize and host a screening of the selected entries every quarter of the year dubbed “BigScreen Shorts” before our final screening and awards “The AREEL”
