“After “Beasts of No Nation”, we all saw Abraham Attah soar and leave Ghana. He is doing well in America. I am extremely glad that the casting team, namely Cosmos Richard (my camera man), was instrumental in us finding Abraham Attah. It’s great to see him thriving.”
“I decided to sign up and manage 3 of the young actors from the film. Francis, who was the older brother of Agu, Ebenezer Annanfo, one of the actors in the Small Boys Unit and Emmanuel Affedzi, who played Dike, with a memorable display of mock kungfu fighting and mime beautifully played out in the earlier part of the film where they tried selling an old TV to soldiers”.
“I offered them all scholarship for the past 5 years to be enrolled into the Helen O’ Grady Drama Academy – Accra. Their tuition fee, transportation and food were covered for the duration of their studies. They learned acting, TV presenting and dance amongst other performance arts disciplines”.
“Francis has worked on a short film with an international production company. Emmanuel and Ebenezer have also been featured in a few TV series such as Solutions. They are slowly getting better with experience and training”
“Emmanuel awaits the premiere of “Borga”, a German Production filmed in Ghana in which he played the lead character’s younger self in the film. He had a great time filming, was highly professional and he looks forward to the premiere of the film”.
Casting Director Kwaku Boateng Ankomah of the Academy Talent Management & Casting Agency which discovered Abraham Atta and Other Actors of “Beasts of No Nation” shares these insights in a recent interview with Acheampong Magazine.
Beasts of No Nation in 2015 threw a spotlight on several acting prospects from the Ghana film industry. Most notably, Abraham Attah, who has gone on to feature in several big projects.
One other young talent the film unearthed is Emmanuel Affedzi. He also boasts of roles in Solutions TV series and Divine 419, a project by a German film Director and considers BORGA his breakthrough role after making appearances in several TV shows and commercials.
Emmanuel, speaking on THE Am CLUB Live on MX24TV, expresses his excitement about being part of the multiple award-winning film.
“I can see myself as a big star because being in movies with big stars like Adjetey Anang and Miss Lydia Forson is so great. I had always wanted to meet them and now I have worked with them”
In BORGA, Emmanuel gets to also star alongside Ghanaian-German discovery of the year Eugene Boateng as well as Emmy Award-winning German actress Christiane Paul. It also stars Jude Arnold Kurankyi, Joseph Otsiman and Fred Nii Amugi.
The film seeks to clear the assertion that all migrants are living successful and wealthy lifestyles abroad. It details the life of a Ghanaian migrant looking to make it big in Germany but does not accept reality and showcases a different lifestyle to his family back home.
BORGA is produced by German production companies Chromosom Film and East End Film as well as Ghanaian/U.K. production company TD Afrique. It has won several international and local awards. This includes 8 awards out of the record 18 nominations it received at the Ghana Movie Awards 2021. It took home both Best Film and Best Cinematography nods.
BORGA is finally set to be premiered in Ghana on Friday, the 24th of June 2022, at the Silverbird Cinemas, Accra and West Hills Malls.
