Coruscating visuals with a touch of Afrocentric feel and look.
Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as ‘Wizkid” recruited Kuukua Eshun as they were both in the Director seats for ‘Made in Lagos’ film. They dazzled and aced their roles on the Short film for the Grammy-nominated “Made In Lagos” album.
Kuukua is a filmmaker, director, and writer. She is the co-founder of Shoot Your Reality, a woman-led production company in Ghana that has expanded its wings across Africa in producing films and other content for Television.
The ‘Made In Lagos’ album was released in October 2020 by Wizkid and it featured amazing stars including Burna Boy, Skepta, H.E.R., Ella Mai, Damian Marley, and topped it up with Buju Banton and Justin Bieber for the Deluxe album.
The Short film opened with a detailed aerial shot of a truck on a lonely road with a background voice of a woman believed to be Kuukua Eshun saying‘“Set yourself free. What does it feel like, or look like, to live in a world full of color?” With a little over 10 minutes, they demonstrated beautiful cinematography coupled with African values which happens to be the center of Wizkid lately. The sound capturing of the intro scenes created an antique feeling where you can even hear the sound that comes from the steering of an old car, t brought back Dunkirk memories. Going with the most preferred screen ratio, they managed to capture all scenes perfectly well without over bloating considering the colourful display of elements on the screen.
The combination of antique picturesque views of nature, a neon-lit party, and a beautiful display of affection were the central highlights of the short film. This is technically a demonstration of directorial and cinematographical prowess. A worthy film. – by ATTAKAAY
