In this year’s official selection of the BigScreen Shorts, 10 films out of all the entries we received, have been shortlisted to contend for the AREEL 2022.

The AREEL Award is presented by Acheampong Magazine in celebrating and recognizing outstanding filmmakers with African Content. Our 20 member jury of Artistes, Filmmakers and Executives, select the films to be screened during our BigScreen Shorts Festival. These Officially Selected films stand the chance to be shortlisted for the 3rd AREEL Awards and nominated in our Audience Choice category voted live by participants at the BigScreen Shorts Festival.

The AREEL Awards will take place in Kumasi, Ghana at Queens, Ahodwo Round About on April 17, 2022.

Our maiden edition of the AREEL was held in September 2019 in Kumasi, Ghana. The open call received over 57 entries and this validated the set goal. It is by this that we intend to sub categories and host a screening of the selected entries every quarter of the year dubbed “BigScreen Shorts Festival” before “The AREEL Awards”.

BigScreen Shorts Festival is an outdoor cinema for participants to enjoy films, network and discover new talents whilst a percentage of the tickets made from the event contribute to support and collaborate with young creative talents to kick start their careers in filmmaking. The very first film we produced with this funding is “Victim – short film”

We will be honored to have your collaborative partnership and sponsorship as we seek to expand our support and celebration of outstanding filmmakers with African Content. We intend to recruit industry-wide support for this mission.
