2022 begins on a good note for the Ghana Film Industry as XDC together with Cassette ushers us into the third edition of GHMovie-con which takes off January 29, 2022, at Accra City Hall (Snap Cinema). The success of the maiden edition back in 2020 launched us into having the second in 2021 and now the third installment of the convention in 2022.

GHMovie-con is gradually cementing itself into the very fabric of the Ghana Film Industry and it is becoming a nonnegligible and a necessary convention. In a grand scheme of things, when held onto, it will be an avenue for growth and a hub of learning, and an annual tradition for the industry at large. Film stakeholders all over the world understand the importance of having movie conventions and GHMovie-con has so far demonstrated the capability of being the saving grace in these trying times for the industry where finding a suitable name is even problematic.

The second edition of the GH-Movie con saw crucial topics discussed with insightful cinephiles and other film stakeholders as they dived deep into the biggest challenges confronting the industry and how we can collectively help to zoom past them. Discerning experiences and informative ideas were shared and it brought us to what the future holds for the industry. Numerically, GH-Movie con is far from Comic-con or DC FanDome, but the impact of the past two editions has already shaped the narrative of some filmmakers and it might just be a stone-throw away from rivalry conventions across the world.

With cliffhanging and knowledge-based discussions at the last convention, a lot of cinephiles will be putting on their Sheldon and Sherlock hats to take on the next discussions on January 29, 2022. The endgame is to ensure delicate issues crucial to the success of the industry become paramount and discourses with befitting solutions are suggested to address issues, and ideas are birth out to ensure good flight of the industry. 2022 has been tipped to be a very busy year for film lovers all over the world, hence the Ghanaian film scene needs to tap into such opportunities to make their projects known.

It is our hope we find moments to ensure that issues regarding our representations at International award schemes and festivals are discussed. It is sad after so many years of filmmaking the closest we have gone to the Academy Awards and Golden Globe awards are considerations for nominations and they have happened only once in the respective award schemes through ‘Azali’ and ‘The Burial of Kojo‘. We look at the bright side regardless.

The organizers of GH-Movie con have described the third edition as An experience, unlike anything we have seen before for the Ghana Film Industry. A showcase of all the greatest projects & creativities behind.

GhMovie-Con is an event in convention-style that gathers together film lovers, aficionados, content creators, cinema buffs, and investors. Which is held at the beginning of every year to provide a platform for exclusive announcements and big reveals of film projects and innovations to be expected within the year. The platform also serves as a kickstart for the film’s marketing and promotional activities.
