2021 was entirely not a dull year for the Ghana Film industry but 2022 looks extremely promising looking at the lineup of local movies that have already made their way onto the big screens of Ghanaian cinemas. From filling up cinemas to packing up incredible action sequences, there seems to be a new dawn for the industry. Well, inasmuch as a lot is going on in the structure and foundation of the Ghana Film Industry, it will not sway us away from the incredible work filmmakers and actors are putting out to ensure we fall not.
We have three movies in the spotlight coming out as the very best movies of January 2022.
‘Terminus’ by Abu Iddris who is a film director, and the CEO of Cine-God Studios took Ghanaians by surprise as he recruited the incredible Adjetey Annan, Helen Lois, Oscar Provencal, Beverly Afaglo, Salma Mumin, Andrew Tandoh Adote, Manaf Yussif, Joseph Otsiman, Anthony Woode, Jeffery Nortey, Joseph Otsiman, Kobina Sam, and Cecilia Anno-Banieh to deliver a fascinating 90-minute thriller. Terminus which was executive produced by City Outlook Entertainment raised awareness about the dangers of pharmaceutical products distributed to Africa and other areas of the world. In a bid by the central character, a Ghanaian chemist to bring justice to his company in a lawsuit finds something way more damaging, a secret formula within antibiotics and painkillers known to no one that is testing, altering, and profit-making to a giant pharmaceutical company.
The Return of Jamal which was written and directed by the award-winning film director, Eddie Seddoh and produced by Afriaussie Culture Entertainment is a sequel to the popular Television series ‘Sadia’. The film stars Adjetey Annan, OB Black, Jay Peacock, Fritx Baffoe, Akrobeto, Oscar Provencal, Belinda Effah, Vicky Zugah, and Benedicta Gaffa. The film sets on the ground as a low-key gangster is back on the loose. The Police are on a manhunt for him again. The Return of Jamal became Afro Aussie Cultural Entertainment (AACE) first film screening of its kind in Australia. It was premiered at Australia’s largest conventional cinema screen at HOYTS Blacktown. With a strong signature of Africa all over it, the film explored themes ranging from loyalty, chieftaincy, power, and corruption. The fictional film was able to serve the ever-changing and eclectic set of fans all over.
‘A happy surprise’ produced by Martha Ankomah Filled up all cinemas in its opening weekend. The star-dominated Christian movie was directed by Maxwell Owusu-Manu and featured Adjetey Annan, Alexandra Aboagye, Amanda Jissih, Fiifi Folson, Joe Mettle, Nii Saka Brown, Paulina Oduro, Prince David Osei, Roselyn Felli, and Martha Ankomah herself. The film took interesting turns as Joe Mettle and Diana Hopeson made a cameo and a debut on screen. The film narrates a group of friends who have been together since childhood and face personal challenges that are capable of questioning their faith in God. Their intimate journeys of bitterness, societal pressure, and betrayals unfold as one of the friends who is unmarried is sired a child by the husband of the friend who is married.
It is crucial to point out that, Adjetey Annan starred in all three movies and came out as our top STAR OF THE MONTH.
