Matilda Enchil played the lead actor in “Da Yie”, Jasmine Jobson in “Good Thanks, You?”, Tomi Ogunjobi in “Appreciation”, Esther Anderson in “A Better Friend” and Doyin Ajoboye in “Dolapo Is Fine” makes the list for the Areel Best Performance Category.
For the Areel Best Supporting role category, we have Kofi Dorve in “I Like It Here”, Patrick Aboagye in “A Better Friend”, Micheal Ward in “Good Thanks, You?”, Joan Lyiola in “Dolapo Is Fine” and Prince Agortey in “Da Yie”.
Majority of these actors are new and had their breakthrough with the movies they starred in. Making these categories shows the work they put into playing their roles and the future they have in the industry.
Jasmine Jobson is an award-winning actor best known for role (Jaq) in British television crime drama series Top Boy in 2019 for Netfilx. She received a BAFTA nomination for this role and won the Best Emerging Talent award at the 2019 MViSA’S. She also starred as Lily in the feature film Surge which she gains her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for BAFTA.
Jobson was born in West London, England to an Irish and Greek-Cypriot Mother and a Jamaican Father. She had shown that she has extraordinary talent at a very young age and has since developed her act into an award-winning performer.
Micheal Ward played the supporting role along Jasmine Jobson in “Good Thanks, You?”. Micheal is a Jamaican-born British actor. He studied Performing Art at the Epping Forest College. He won the 2020 BAFTA Rising Star Award for playing a leading role in the film Blue Story.
Micheal also appeared in The Old Guard, Top Boy and The A List, Steve Mcqueen’s Small Axe: Lovers Rock for which he received a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in Supporting Role. He is also cast in upcoming films The Beautiful Game and Empire Of Light. The Beautiful Game begins filming this year and filming is already under way for Empire Of Light.
Tomi Ogunjobi is largely known for her roles in Riches (2019), Sex Education (2019) and Precious Hair & Beauty (2021). She has also starred in theatre productions and commercials. She studied Theatre Art at the University Of Ibadan, Nigeria.
Joan lyiola is a British-Nigerian actor, Writer and Producer based in London. She is best known for her roles in The Duchess of Malfi and Dolapo Is Fine. lyiola becomes the first black woman to play The Duchess in a major production.
