ACCRA, A new cinematic rallying cry is set to echo through the halls of Silverbird Cinemas in Accra and Weija on December 12th, marking a bold and ambitious era for Ghanaian filmmaking.

The highly anticipated action-comedy, “Hero’s Ride” (subtitled: Baby Thief), makes its grand debut as the first installment of a massive new franchise. This is more than just a film; it’s an origin story centered on an unlikely hero: Ben, a principled Bolt driver whose sharp instincts thrust him into the battle against crime.

Written and directed by Kwame Boadi, the film is perhaps his most daring work yet, as it delves into the vital issue of social relevance—demonstrating the significant role ordinary citizens can play in maintaining safety and order in their communities.

At the heart of the narrative is a celebration of Ghana’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). The story is powerfully anchored by the Akoben, a traditional Adinkra symbol representing the war horn.

The film uses this symbol to champion a philosophy of wariness, vigilance, and readiness to serve. It serves as a modern-day clarion call for responsible citizenship, encouraging audiences to be alert to injustice in their communities, just as Ben remains watchful on the streets of Accra.

While the film tackles the serious theme of vigilance, it is wrapped in high-octane entertainment and sharp humor. The first installment features a heavy-hitting cast of stars, including: Gloria Sarfo, Andrew Adote Tandoh, Nikki Samonas and the unpredictable Bukom Banku (who appears as the menacing yet darkly humorous enforcer, Banku)

The story follows Ben, an ordinary driver who refuses to look away when he stumbles upon a criminal syndicate. In a world where many drive past, Ben stops to help, partnering with the police and proving that heroism isn’t about superpowers—it’s about the courage to act.

According to Technical Producer Oliver Safo, ‘Hero’s Ride: Baby Thief’ tactfully integrates tradition and futurism, bringing new and experimental ideas to the screen. The film is groundbreaking in its fusion of old and new, using technology to tease the protagonist’s ultimate evolution: a street-smart driver destined to become a sophisticated, battle-ready Cyborg avatar in future installments.

This multi-sensory experience extends beyond the screen. The premiere is accompanied by a dedicated music soundtrack album and a music video, featuring infectious Afrobeat rhythms designed to serve as a sonic call to action for the youth.

This world-class production is the result of a strategic alliance between the ingenious Ghanaian cinema innovators, AI Media, and Petrosol Platinum Energy, a brand dedicated to “energizing dreams.” AI Media’s previous work includes the acclaimed ‘Sun City’ television series, the ‘Gold Coast’ feature film, and the ‘Omo Ghana: Man For Chop’ docu-drama.

The partnership is a seamless fit: just as Ben the driver relies on quality fuel to keep moving, the production relies on Petrosol’s support to drive this ambitious vision forward.

Crucially, the film has garnered significant institutional backing, validating its message and importance: Ghana Police Service: Underscoring its message of law and order. National Folklore Board: Validating its powerful use of cultural heritage. National Film Authority: Highlighting its importance to the creative industry.

On December 12th, the Akoben, The ‘Hero’s Ride’ horn sounds at Silverbird. Don’t miss the birth of Ghana’s newest, most innovative hero.
